Your questions answered

Common questions about our mental health medication care and treatment pathway.

What is tapGP Wellbeing? +
tapGP Wellbeing is a confidential online mental health service providing access to NHS-trained, GMC-registered GPs with experience in mental health.

Our care is delivered through a structured treatment pathway, starting with an assessment, followed by early medication reviews if treatment is started, and ongoing prescription care once stable.
What mental health conditions do you treat? +
Our doctors commonly support patients with:
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Stress-related symptoms
  • Social phobia
  • Obsessive compulsive disorder (mild–moderate)
  • Perinatal and postnatal depression
We do not treat conditions such as ADHD, psychosis, eating disorders, personality disorders, or alcohol and drug dependence.
How much does treatment cost? +
We use a structured pricing model designed around safe prescribing and follow-up:
  • Medication Start Programme: £189 (one-off) — includes your initial assessment and early medication reviews.
  • Repeat Prescription Care: £19 per month — for patients who are stable on treatment, including a scheduled 6-monthly GP review.
Medication costs are paid separately to the pharmacy.
Can I book an appointment on the same day? +
In most cases, yes. Many patients can have their first appointment on the same day, often within a few hours of booking. If same-day appointments are full, the next available slot can be booked at a convenient time. often within a few hours. Appointments can also be booked in advance.
When am I likely to see an improvement? +
It depends on the medication and your symptoms, but a typical timeline is:
  • First few days: some people notice early changes in sleep or anxiety, but side effects can also show up first.
  • 2–4 weeks: gradual improvement is more common (for example, fewer “bad days” or slightly better mood and motivation).
  • 4–8 weeks: the full benefit is often clearer, and we can decide whether to continue, adjust the dose, or consider an alternative.
If you feel significantly worse, have new troubling symptoms, or have thoughts of self-harm, please seek urgent help immediately (call 999 or go to A&E).
Can I collect my prescription from any pharmacy? +
Yes. Your electronic prescription can be taken to almost any UK pharmacy. We can also help you find a local pharmacy if needed.
Is my information secure and confidential? +
Yes. All records are stored securely using encrypted systems and are only accessible to authorised tapGP staff trained in data protection.

We never share your information without your consent, except where legally required.
What experience do your doctors have? +
Our doctors have trained and worked in the NHS for a minimum of 5 years, are GMC registered, members of the RCGP, and receive ongoing mental health training. tapGP is also regulated by the CQC.
Do I need to leave my NHS GP? +
No. Using tapGP does not affect your NHS registration or your ability to see your own GP in the future.
Do I have to pay for the medication itself? +
The appointment includes prescription writing. The pharmacy will charge separately for the medication and may apply a private dispensing fee. NHS prescription exemptions do not apply.
Can I get a fit (sick) note? +
Yes, if clinically appropriate. Please request this during your appointment. Fit notes are emailed after your consultation and cannot be used for statutory pay or benefits.
