Your questions answered

tapGP is an online GP service that provides quality healthcare from anywhere through video and telephone consultations. Our NHS trained, UK-based doctors and clinicians are here to help you receive quality healthcare without the long waiting times. We understand the frustration of not being able to see your GP for days or weeks. Patients at tapGP can book same-day (usually within a few hours) GP appointments seven days a week. Our online doctors and clinicians can prescribe medication for collection at your local pharmacy and send referral letters and sick notes to your email address.

Booking an appointment with a doctor or clinician is easy. The tapGP app is available for both iOS and Android devices. Just tap here to download the app or visit the AppStore or Google Play store on your phone. After downloading the app, register and book your appointment in less than 5 minutes. Appointments are usually available on the same-day and usually within a few hours.

We are proud of having a service that can be easily accessed by any resident of England and Wales. So, if you’re on a business trip, trekking a mountain, on a beach holiday or sitting at home, you can have peace of mind that a GP is available to talk to directly from your phone. We can send prescriptions to you so you can collect your medication at a local pharmacy. See a clinician now by downloading the tapGP app.

Wave goodbye to waiting rooms or having to wait days for an appointment with your doctor. GP and clinician appointments are available from 8am to 10pm seven days a week. Appointments are 10 minutes but can be extended if needed.

Our GP appointments are priced at £49, which includes the cost of prescription writing. Fit notes and referral letters are considered additional services and are charged at £9 each. These additional services require a separate payment at the time of the appointment.

Keeping your records safe is our top priority. We hold your records in a secure AWS database with a high level of encryption. Your records are only accessible by tapGP staff who have received training in data-protection.

Your time is important to us. We aim to see patients within 15 minutes of their appointment time. On very rare occasions there may be a longer wait.

Absolutely! Most of our GP appointments are available on the same day and usually within a few hours. You can also book a GP appointment up to three days in advance.

You can take your electronic prescription to nearly any pharmacy of your choice in the England and Wales. Alternatively the tapGP team can help you find a pharmacy near you.

Our GPs and clinicians treat nearly all conditions that you would see your NHS GP for, click here for more information. Our experienced online GPs and clinicians can prescribe medication, provide you with a referral letter to a specialist or a fit (sick) note.

Please note, we do not see patients with medical emergencies and advise you to call 999 or go to your nearest A&E. These include:

  • Chest pain or pressure, which could be indicative of a heart attack or other cardiac emergency.
  • Severe difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, suggesting a serious respiratory problem or anaphylactic reaction.
  • Severe injuries or trauma, such as deep cuts, fractures, head injuries, severe burns, or injuries requiring immediate medical attention.
  • Loss of consciousness, which could be a sign of a serious underlying condition or medical emergency.
  • Seizures, where immediate medical assistance is crucial.
  • Severe allergic reactions, characterised by difficulty breathing, swelling, or anaphylaxis.
  • Suicidal thoughts or engaging in self-harm, which require immediate attention from emergency mental health services.
  • Stroke symptoms, including sudden weakness or numbness, difficulty speaking or understanding speech, and sudden severe headache.
  • Severe abdominal pain, especially if persistent and intense, indicating a potentially serious condition.

Absolutely! We can send referral letters directly to your email address after your consultation with our online GP or clinician.

All of our online doctors and clinicians have trained in the NHS for a minimum of 5 years and have also worked for over 5 years in an NHS trust. They undergo regular remote consultation training and assessment. Our clinicians are registered with the GMC and are members of RCGP. tapGP is also registered with the CQC; an organisation that regulates all healthcare services in England.

Our services are currently only available to residents in England and Wales. If you require medical help abroad please contact us before making an appointment.

Absolutely! Any child under 16 years will need to be registered under the parent or guardian’s account. The parent or guardian must be present throughout their consultation. Children 16 years and over will need to create their own account before making an appointment.

We advise that you consent to allowing us to share your tapGP medical records with your NHS GP. This is to ensure you receive better and safer care and will mean we can prescribe a broader range of medications.

Yes, tapGP does not require you to de-register with your NHS GP and will not affect you making future appointments with your NHS GP.

You can arrange a private blood test by booking an appointment and discussing your requirements with one of our GPs. Your GP will arrange the appropriate blood tests and explain how you can book the test.

The cost of the appointment includes prescription-writing. However, the cost of the medication prescribed will vary depending on the pharmacy. The pharmacy may also charge a private dispensing fee. NHS exemptions for prescriptions do not apply.

After your appointment, a code will be sent to you by text message and email instantly. Take this code to your local pharmacy and advise the pharmacist that you have a prescription generated by Signature Rx.

The pharmacist can issue your prescription by visiting www.signaturerx.co.uk and entering the code along with your date of birth.

Yes, our GPs can issue a fit (sick) note if they think you need one. Please request a sick note during your consultation with the GP. Your fit note will be sent to your email address soon after your appointment. You can then forward your fit note to your employer or school.

tapGP currently does not have direct access to your NHS medical records. However, we understand the importance of medical history, and we recommend having your medical records including medications readily available during the appointment to ensure the most comprehensive care.
