Your questions answered

Common questions about GP consultations for anxiety and depression.

What is tapGP Wellbeing? +
tapGP Wellbeing is a confidential online mental health service providing access to NHS-trained, GMC-registered GPs with experience in mental health.

We offer quick GP consultations for anxiety and depression. You'll have a safety screening assessment, followed by a 15-minute consultation with a GP. If treatment is appropriate, you'll receive a prescription. If you're stable on treatment, you can continue with ongoing repeat prescriptions at £19/month.
What mental health conditions do you treat? +
Our doctors commonly support patients with:
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Stress-related symptoms
  • Social phobia
  • Obsessive compulsive disorder (mild–moderate)
  • Perinatal and postnatal depression
We do not treat conditions such as ADHD, psychosis, eating disorders, personality disorders, or alcohol and drug dependence. Our screening assessment will identify if you're not suitable.
How much does a consultation cost? +
  • Quick consultation: £59 (one-off) — includes safety screening and 15-minute GP assessment.
  • Repeat prescriptions: £19 per month — for patients stable on treatment, with a scheduled GP review every 6 months.
Medication costs are paid separately to the pharmacy.
Is this just a prescription service? Will the GP actually assess me? +
No, this is a proper GP assessment. You'll:
  • Complete a safety screening assessment to check suitability
  • Have a 15-minute consultation with a GMC-registered GP
  • Discuss your symptoms, medical history, and treatment options
  • Only receive a prescription if the GP determines it's clinically appropriate for you
Your GP prioritizes your safety and wellbeing, not just prescribing medication.
Can I book an appointment on the same day? +
In most cases, yes. Many patients can have their consultation on the same day, often within a few hours of booking. If same-day slots are full, you can book at a convenient time that suits you. Appointments are available 7 days a week.
How quickly will I see improvement? +
It depends on the medication and your symptoms, but a typical timeline is:
  • First few days: some people notice early changes in sleep or anxiety, but side effects can also show up first.
  • 2–4 weeks: gradual improvement is more common (for example, fewer "bad days" or slightly better mood and motivation).
  • 4–8 weeks: the full benefit is often clearer, and you can discuss with your GP whether to continue, adjust the dose, or consider an alternative.
If you feel significantly worse, have new troubling symptoms, or have thoughts of self-harm, please seek urgent help immediately (call 999 or go to A&E).
Can I collect my prescription from any pharmacy? +
Yes. Your electronic prescription can be taken to almost any UK pharmacy. We can also help you find a local pharmacy if needed.
Is my information secure and confidential? +
Yes. All records are stored securely using encrypted systems and are only accessible to authorised tapGP staff trained in data protection.

We never share your information without your consent, except where legally required.
What experience do your doctors have? +
Our doctors have trained and worked in the NHS for a minimum of 5 years, are GMC registered, members of the RCGP, and receive ongoing mental health training. tapGP is also regulated by the CQC.
Do I need to leave my NHS GP? +
No. Using tapGP does not affect your NHS registration or your ability to see your own GP in the future.
Do I have to pay for the medication itself? +
The £59 consultation includes prescription writing. The pharmacy will charge separately for the medication and may apply a private dispensing fee. NHS prescription exemptions do not apply.
What if I need ongoing support after my consultation? +
If treatment is suitable and you're stable on medication, you can move to repeat prescription care at £19/month. This includes monthly repeat prescriptions and a scheduled GP review every 6 months.

If symptoms change or you need additional support at any time, you can book an additional GP consultation.
Can I get a fit (sick) note? +
Yes, if clinically appropriate. Please request this during your consultation. Fit notes are emailed after your appointment and cannot be used for statutory pay or benefits.
